Swarupananda Brahmachari Early Life

On March 8th, 1954, in the quiet town of Habibpur in the Nadia District of West Bengal, Guru Sri entered this world. Guru Sri’s parents, Sri Narendranath Basu & Smt Ashoka Basu, are extremely religious.
Guru Sri’s father, Sri Narendranath Basu, named him Tapan Kumar Basu. He was slightly different from other kids from childhood, always inclined toward achieving spiritual perfection.
It is fairly uncommon for these modern Indian people to renunciate the materialistic consumer culture, but Guru Sri was the opposite. His early rejection of material success and political influence pushed him to become a fully evolved spiritual human.
Educationaly life
From very early life, he has always been an excellent student. He completed his MA in English Literature at the University of Calcutta. His deep understanding of English literature allowed him to draw students from all walks of life to his classroom.
Service & Family Life With Spirituality
He completed his formal education and immediately joined the Indian Railway Services and dedicatedly served his working career. Over the course of his tenure, he received many promotions. Even though he could keep climbing up the corporate ladder; but, he decided to depart based on the divine plan and spread the Kriya-Yog among common human beings.
Nobody could make Him doubt his faith in God. Despite the short period of His ministry, many people were initiated into Kriya Yoga. He followed Guru’s advice and married a devout Hindu woman, Smt. Smritikana Basu, settling down to have a family and practice yoga (Guruma, as the students call her, in pure love and adoration).
Even though He never deviated from the strict yet enlightened Brahmachari code of conduct. Guruma did more than back Him up in his undertakings; she was also instrumental in running the Kriya Yoga Mission and doing other good deeds for the community. Having deliberately chosen to adopt Gurudev’s rigorous spiritual lifestyle, Guruma was the ideal travel companion for the spiritual master.
